This month’s cover is by Loreana Rush. She has worked in the Irish music scene for over five years and her striking and colourful work includes promotional artwork and photography for local and international bands, and live gigs. Her work features in magazine, designs and in promotional material for bands such as Fight Like Apes, who used her artwork for their debut album, singles and EPs.
Japan and its culture, Marvel Comics and Animals inform Rushe’s art. She draws from rich and diverse cultural material such as anime, manga and folklore; especially Yokai (spirits and demons) and Kaiju (monsters such as Godzilla). Stylistic elements of other artists she admires such as Gary Baseman, Steve Ditko, Hayao Miyazaki, Osamu Tezuka and Mimiyo Tomozawa can also be seen in her work. She filters these influences through her own Dublin background. The end result is a vivid, dreamy, almost hallucinatory style that is entirely her own. Rushe currently works as photo editor for state.ie and freelance.
