The Ruby Sessions
The Ruby Sessions is an acoustic club held weekly every Tuesday night in the intimate setting of Doyle’s (across from the gates of Trinity college). Doors: 9pm / Adm: €6 at the door. Every week four artists play an original acoustic set for 20 minutes each. Profits are donated to the Dublin Simon Community.

Tillie’s Cafe
18 St Gabriel’s Road, Clontarf, Dublin 3 (Tel: +353 1 853 4226)
Aside from delicious home cooking, fresh salads and sandwiches, and the finest Illy coffee, this place bakes the most mouthwatering desserts this side of  that gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel – Punt recommends the carrot cake and the lemon drizzle cake. They also cater for private parties.

Winding Stair Bookshop
Ha’penny Bridge, Dublin 1
An old favourite in Dublin for decades. The restaurant upstairs has a great menu and wine list (a table by the window is real treat) and the bookshop downstairs is as charming as ever with helpful staff. It’s great for picking up presents, interesting magazines (ahem) and children’s books.

City Discs
Temple Bar, Dublin 2
This small independent record shop, beside the Button Factory in Temple Bar, sells a wide range of new and secondhand music on CD and vinyl, specialising in electronic music. It’s run by music lovers for music lovers and Craig will do his best to help you find what you’re looking so drop in for a look around.

Sound Cellar
Nassau Street, Dublin 2
The self-proclaimed ‘Original Rock Basement’ (beside has supplied its loyal customers with some of the finest names in music. Owner Tommy Tighe keeps things oldschool, for the musical purist. Sound Cellar are specialists in heavy metal, blues, country and rock.

SeSi
Opp Urban Outfitters, Fownes St, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 (Tel: +353 1 677 4779)
A great shop full of vintage cloths and accessories and new indie brands and designers. Everything is affordable, the staff are lovely, and upstairs is the delicious Cafe Irie, the perfect place to admire your new purchases and read your copy of Punt!

The Rathgar Bookshop
Rathgar Road, Dublin 6
Aside from stocking an eclectic range of titles covering everything from poetry and children’s books to travel, art, history and politics, the Rathgar Bookshop has a great range of gardening books, including lots of titles on organic gardening. Not to mention Liz’s delicious homebaked cakes!

Alan Hanna’s Bookshop
Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin 6
Smack bang in the middle of Rathmines, Alan Hanna’s bookshop has been open since the 1970s and is a great sot for Irish interest books and bargain books.

Jo Burger
Rathmines Road Lower, Dublin 6
For burgers that will change your life and delicious beers to wash them down, as well as amazing artwork from our friend SUMS, get yourself down to Jo Burger. And while you’re there, check out the new Rec Room: if the burgers don’t change your life, this will.

Bookworms
75 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1 (Tel: +353 1 873 5772)
Just off O’Connell Street, this is a handy little bookshop that stays open till 7pm every evening and is great for a bargain or a lastminute present. Stop in and say hello to lovely Jacqueline, who will be happy to help you out.

Tower Records
Wicklow Street, Dublin 2
Not only does Tower have a great range of music, DVD, books and games, the store supports local talent and hosts regular live instore events and signings, as well as stocking formats such as VHS, vinyl, dual disc, DVD audio, and super audio CD, etc. And some great magazines to boot!

Urban Picnic
George’s Street Arcade, George’s Street, Dublin 2
A great spot for lunch or a bite before heading out. Lovely big benches are perfect for reading enjoying some nosh and reading the paper… or a copy of Punt. Vinny da Chef provides a warm welcome and recreates dishes from various regions of the world, with strong emphasises on the Mediterranean, Asia and the Americas.

Art of Eating
47 Upper George’s Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin
Let natural food be your medicine is the motto at Art of Eating and by god, medicine never tasted so good. As well as selling organic food and food for people special dietary needs, they also do a delicious and nutritious line in freshly prepared soups and sandwiches, superfood salads, yummy cookies and herbal teas and organic coffees. Nyom nyom.
